Wendy Johnson grew up in a small, rural community in northwest Ohio. The eldest of four sisters, she learned early the importance of neighbors caring for one another and the opportunities hard work and education can bring. An academic scholarship took her to Otterbein College, where she earned a B.S. in Chemistry. After graduating, Wendy moved to Dublin to begin her career with Ashland Chemical. It was here she met her husband, Jay, and together they chose to make Dublin the place to raise their two boys, Van (a senior at Miami University) and Jake (a junior at THE Ohio State University). More than thirty years later, their extended family and friends—or “framily,” as Wendy likes to say—have grown alongside them, making Dublin not just where they live, but where they belong.
Wendy sees Dublin as a city that, while larger, growing, and increasingly innovative, still evokes the small-town charm she recognizes from her hometown. She appreciates the thoughtful planning that has made Dublin such a special place to live—its parks, waterways, trails, and lively destination zones like Historic Dublin. For her family, Darree Fields is particularly special, having been the backdrop for countless soccer and games and long walks with the family dogs.
Her professional life has given Wendy more than 20 years of leadership experience in product management and marketing, including her current role with Dell Technologies and previous work with Mettler-Toledo. Her career has centered on listening to people, understanding their needs, balancing priorities, and delivering clear solutions; this is the experience, and these are the skills she will bring to City Council. Wendy believes in accountability, accessibility, and pragmatism, and she knows the importance of transparent decision-making.
Community involvement has always been a natural extension of Wendy’s family and professional lives. She was active with Cub Scout Troop 486 when her boys were young, volunteered with Feeding Hilliard Students, and participated in Meals on Wheels and United Way programs through work. She has also been a strong supporter of organizations that deliver resources and encouragement to children with autism spectrum disorders and their families, a cause especially close to her heart. For Wendy, service has never been about seeking recognition; it has been about stepping in where needed, supporting her neighbors, and helping make everyday life a little better for those around her.
Wendy’s decision to run for City Council is rooted in a desire to protect the character of Dublin’s neighborhoods while planning responsibly for future growth. She has been especially motivated by the community’s strong response to proposed rezoning in the West Innovation District. Living in neighborhoods connected to Hilliard Schools—including Kendall Ridge and now Ballantrae—has given her a unique perspective regarding neighborhood engagement. She is focused on ensuring that new development fits Dublin’s values, that traffic and safety issues are addressed before growth occurs, and that residents remain central to the decision-making process.
As a candidate for Ward 2, Wendy is committed to being a strong voice for her neighbors. She believes growth does not have to be divisive—with open dialogue, collaboration, and transparency in the process, Dublin can continue to thrive as a place where families, businesses, and communities flourish together.
